Rhonda SG Yippeee!! I was right - that poor JC boy who committed suicide cause he thought he had a wee package really did suffer from Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)! I think a lot of times, GP's here make light of patients they see who are obviously undergoing depression or other psychological / emotional disorders.
Kan_i SG what is BDD? i assumed that he suffered from depression as a result of believing he had a small penis... true or otherwise. I think there are too many terms floating around.

And nope, he did not suffer depression because of his belief... his belief was as a result of his psychological condition. People with BDD are obsessed with the idea that one or more body part(s) are abnormal and no matter how you try to convince them, they'll not think otherwise. BDD is a recognised psychological ailment classified under the DSM-IV, which lists all recognised mental and psychological abnormalities and is like the gold standard in the field.

the Bear SG BDD? i'm going to play devil's advocate now and say that i'm unsympathetic to these things... seriously... seems like shrinks like to come up with things in order that people become less and less responsible for their own actions... as a result, for years and years, children have been poisoned with ritalin (which is basically kiddy amphetamines) when they are "diagnosed" with ADD and ADHD... which doesn't exist.. next thing, we're going to say that anorexia is not the responsibility of the person who refuses to eat... the random sniper is not responsible for his mass murder because his mother grounded him during his kindergarten years... Osama didn't get any booty in his years in the west... what next?
